Mahlet currently serves as a Principal Program Officer - Chief of Staff at the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). In over 12 years as a public health professional, Mahlet's experience ranges from leading disease prevention and control programs to supporting executive-level leadership with strategic and program management.

Mahlet earned her Doctor of Medicine from Addis Ababa University, and her Master of Public Health from University College, Dublin. She is a Takemi Fellow of the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and an African Public Health Leaders Fellow at Chatham House. She joined Watsi's board in 2020.
