Watsi is hiring a Community & Engagement Lead (Remote)

**Thank you for the incredible response to our Community & Engagement Lead opening. Applications are now closed. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who took the time to apply and share what draws them to Watsi’s mission. If this role wasn’t the right timing, or if we weren’t able to move forward together this round, we hope you’ll stay connected and keep an eye on our blog for future openings.

Want to help fund life-saving healthcare for the next person waiting for surgery?

More than 34,000 people across 36 countries have received the healthcare they needed because strangers around the world chose to help. A child back in school after surgery. A parent able to care for their children again. A farmer back in the fields alongside his father. Every one of them is real, has a story, and is verified. And, behind each is a community of people who made care happen.

We're looking for the person who will grow that community.

Watsi is a tech nonprofit that directly connects people to fund life-changing healthcare. 100% of every donation goes straight to a patient's care. We're a small, remote global team driven by radical transparency, the joy of human connection, and a shared belief that everyone deserves access to healthcare.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for a Community & Engagement Lead to build one of the most active and mission-driven communities in global health and philanthropy.

You'll work closely with Watsi's Executive Director and Director of Marketing & Insights to deepen relationships with existing supporters, welcome new people into Watsi’s global community, and create partnerships and experiences that directly connect people to their impact.

This role sits at the intersection of community-building, communications, storytelling, and growth. One day, you might be drafting a donor email, planning a community gathering, or helping a Watsi Ambassador launch a creative fundraising idea. Next, you might be researching a prospective foundation supporter, pitching a podcast, or helping bring a new creative campaign to life.

We're looking for someone who genuinely loves connection, communicates thoughtfully, follows through consistently, and finds joy in bringing people together around a shared purpose.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

Community Building & Donor Engagement

🤝 You'll build a community of supporters who feel genuinely connected to the patients they've helped, to each other, and to Watsi's mission.

  • You'll deepen relationships with existing donors through outreach, stewardship, and recognition, helping them feel the impact of their giving through stories, updates, and personalized communication.
  • You'll grow programs that encourage supporters to engage more deeply with Watsi and one another.
  • You'll lead our Ambassador community, finding authentic ways for Ambassadors to share Watsi within their own networks.
  • You'll look for moments to delight and strengthen relationships across our community.

Outreach & Community Growth

👋 You'll introduce new people to Watsi and grow our base of supporters.

  • You'll research and cultivate prospective supporters, partners, and champions across email, LinkedIn, events, introductions, and other channels.
  • You'll guide supporter journeys from first interaction through first gift and beyond, with outreach that feels personal and human, never generic.
  • You'll connect dots and find new opportunities to expand Watsi's reach.

Communications & Storytelling

🎤 You'll tell the stories that inspire people to care, give, and stay connected.

  • You'll test new ideas, measure results, and weigh in on what we should try next.
  • You'll share Watsi's story across media, podcasts, and speaking engagements.
  • You'll partner with our Director of Marketing & Insights on campaigns, creative projects, and communications.
  • You'll create content across channels — social media, impact reports, newsletters, and community updates — featuring patients, donors, Ambassadors, volunteers, and partners.

Events & Experiences

✨ You'll create moments for people to connect more deeply with Watsi and each other.

  • You'll conceptualise, plan, and execute virtual and in-person events for donors, Ambassadors, and partners — managing logistics from planning through follow-up.
  • You'll design memorable experiences that reflect Watsi's values and bring our globally distributed community together.

Executive Support & Special Projects

✏️ You'll work closely with Watsi's Executive Director and Director of Marketing & Insights to move important relationships and initiatives forward.

  • You'll draft correspondence and prepare research and briefing materials for donor meetings, partnerships, and speaking opportunities.
  • You'll coordinate across workstreams and make sure relationships and projects don't fall through the cracks.
  • You'll improve the systems and workflows that strengthen how we work as a team and how we engage our community.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You’re passionate about Watsi’s mission. You believe everyone deserves healthcare, and you’re energized to bring more people into a community working to make that real.
  • You have 2–4 years of professional experience. Nonprofit background is good to have but not mandatory. We care more about what you’ve created, how you’ve moved your curiosity into action, how you communicate, and how you think.
  • You’re creative and entrepreneurial — you see a gap, quickly connect dots or seed an idea, and move forward without waiting to be asked. You have a high tolerance for ambiguity. You’d rather try something and learn than wait for perfect conditions.
  • You write and communicate well with all sorts of people. You love to share stories, gratitude, and write in a way that always sounds like a real, big-hearted person.
  • You find joy in gathering and understand that community-building has many textures.
  • You're comfortable working remotely and communicating clearly in a virtual environment.
  •  You’re independent, but collaborative. You want to build alongside a small team and share what you’re learning along the way. You're confident using collaboration tools like Slack, Google Workspace, Zoom, Notion, Mural, Typeform or similar platforms.
  • You have an eye for good design and sharing engaging stories brings you satisfaction.
  • You thrive using data and your own instincts to experiment, iterate, and improve.
  • You're curious about technology and eager to experiment and build with new tools, including AI, to improve how work gets done.
  • You can pick up new systems and concepts quickly, and enjoy figuring things out.
