SF artist auctions $250k hand-painted Porsche for Watsi

Jonathan Matas is a well-recognized San Francisco artist. His work is featured across the Bay Area, from murals in the Mission to the walls of Facebook headquarters.

Eight months ago, Jonathan met someone who was interested in buying one of his paintings. They got into a Porsche together to look at some art, when an idea emerged. They decided that Matas would paint the Porsche itself, and they'd auction it for a starting price of $250,000 with 50% of the proceeds benefiting Watsi.

For the next several months, Jonathan drove the Porsche throughout Northern California, painting it bit-by-bit along the way.

The finished product is called the “Document of Energy: The immeasurable display of Phenomena,” and this weekend he’s showing it to the public for the first time.

Come see the car on Sunday, October 18th on 19th and Valencia in the Mission, in front of one of Jonathan’s most well-known murals. Jonathan and the Watsi team will be there. For details, check out the Facebook event here!
